Information on Italians that may have settled on the Isle of Wight, UK (in 1900s)

by Jennifer
(Dorset, UK)

My grandfather is half Italian, born out of 'wedlock' and adopted by a family in Dorset. He was born in Ryde on the Isle of Wight in 1908. All I know is that his father was an Italian immigrant.

My own father tried for years to trace the real father but we didn't have enough information to help us.

It is a long shot, but I would be grateful if anyone knows if there was a community of Italians that settled on the Isle of Wight sometime around the 1900s. I appreciate that I won't ever find out who my great grandfather is, but it would be interesting to find out even a little bit of information about the people that settled there from Italy.

Thank you.
